Chi Kung is quite often practised for health, without martial arts training by many people in the Far East.
Many forms of Chi Kung exist, but usually have the three characteristics of harmonising the Body, Breath and Mind.
In traditional Chinese medicine Chi or vital energy pervades the body and allows the organs to function.
When the flow of Chi is disturbed it creates ill health for the mind and body.
The purpose of Chi Kung (Qigong) is to regulate the Chi to help bring harmony and good health.
From a martial arts perspective Chi Kung also has the ability to generate power to increase the force of the strikes.
The three major areas that Chi is used are:
- For health
- Spiritual wellbeing and
- Martial arts
